Limited 2025 Bookings still available
Now for the practical side!
One of the main reasons we bought this house is because of the layout: everything just works and flows so well. Bedrooms are on the first and second floors, all with ample space, beautiful fittings and furnishings, and all an-suite. The rooms are all comparably set-up (no-one getting the 'dud' room, often the case with large rental properties) and we make sure they are perfect for YOUR stay (we remove all our personal items so you feel at home).
We've put together the rough floor plans, as well as pictures of each room to give you a sense of the layout and so you can set up your perfect stay.
As you will see the place has plenty of space for multiple people, but at the same time it is wonderfully homely and cosy for a smaller group-based stay -often we are just the five of us and have a wonderful time - it's surprising how much space you can take up when its there!
Our Grange is now fully renovated and refurbished and comfortably sleeps four more people. It has two good sized, ensuite bedrooms, it's own living room as well as renovated kitchen. Perfect for those that have a bigger group offering more space and a bit more privacy. Whilst the Grange is separate to the main Chateau (it has it's own drive, garden and entrance). Both can be rented together, effectively joining it up as one with outside seating taking 18 people (the Grange is c.200m from the house along the main drive).
This will take the house total to 18 (pricing TBC - please let us know if required for 2025 bookings).

We are so lucky to have David living close by. A previous owner, he appreciates the nuances of a 300 year old house. He is a fantastic cook and we have been lucky to introduce him to many of our guests, all who have raved about his food. David's focus is on fresh, local and seasonable produce but is able to cater to your whims and will run all menus by you before coming along. If you are interested, please let us know in good time as he gets very booked up, especially in the Summer months.
As a family. we love cooking so one of the first things we did to the Chateau was to update the kitchen and open up the breakfast room so it flows into the kitchen. We have added an amazing La Canche oven and an additional steam combi oven (for the more adventurous out there this will be great for doing sous vides, bread's, etc.).
Zena our amazing housekeeper will leave some nice local foods as a stopgap for your arrival. We have also got you a couple of bottles of lovely wine to keep you going!
If you will need more than just the basics on arrival, let us know and Julie can try and help out.
If you want to taste and learn about Bergerac and French wines without getting in the car, then we can arrange for our wine expert to come to La Guerinchie and give you a fantastic wine-tasting session.
The beauty of being a short walk to Thiviers is the multiple amazing patisseries.
The Boulangerie Metifit Francis et Valerie is the closest and does an amazing pain au raisin, breads and croissants. Further into town is Boclet Bernard who do amazing cakes and cookies and the ladies there are absolutely lovely.
There are down duvets on the beds in the double bedrooms, there are also anti-allergy duvets available for those that need them.
All the bed linen is pure cotton as are the towels. We also provide separate pool towels. For longer stays the bed linen and towels are changed by the housekeeping staff weekly.
Feel free to use the washing machine to clean your towels more regularly (just watch the pool towel colours vs the house!). We leave plenty of washing supplies for your own use.
We can provide a cot with a mattress, a high chair, children’s cutlery, plates and bowls, plus there are plenty of books, and indoor and outdoor games around the house and on the top floor, courtesy of Bertie and Apollonia - our five and four year old who are happy to share their toys. We are also in the process of creating a children's den at the bottom of the garden under the oak tree - feel free to find it and hang out with your little ones there.
Quite a few guests have asked about the lake as from the pictures, it looks like it's easily accessible but don't worry, it's not. The gardeners have cleverly planted tall bushes and marsh plants around it so it's pretty much inaccessible.
For the adventurous, take a trek through the woods - there is a cave hidden away if you can find it - not large enough for a bear, but good for a picnic.....
Feel free to pick the rosemary, sage, mint and other herbs you may find!
We plan to fit an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and a large barbecue for 2025.
There are some simple tricks to keep the house cool in the Summer, such as closing the shutters during the day. There are fans in all the bedrooms.
For the Winter, we do have central heating. We are also fitting multiple wood burners and will provide all the firewood you’ll need, sourced from our own sustainable forest -it is always growing more than we burn!
In the house, you’ll find a Nespresso machine, speakers, iron and ironing board and vacuum. There are a couple of hairdryers for the whole house too.
We provide dishwasher tablets, washing-up liquid, detergents, bin bags, loo paper and other cleaning products for your use but if you are missing something, just check the utility room or ask Julie.
When you leave, please leave it in a state you would be happy to find your own house. While our team of cleaners do come in to do a thorough clean, please be respectful and tidy up, take the rubbish to the dump, kitchen things washed etc.
Arrival is after 4.00 p.m. Zena will meet you and take you through the house. There is a lockbox for the key say for very late arrivals in case. Please leave before 10.00 a.m. on the day of departure as we will have lots of work to do before the next guests!
We absolutely love animals and have four of our own rescue dogs in Singapore, but we also know some of their favourite habits for example; swimming in lakes and then jumping on sofas! Please talk to us first if you are interested in bringing your furry friends and we can make a plan. 100% house trained only though and no animals upstairs.
Sorry, absolutely no smoking is permitted anywhere in the house. If you smoke in the garden, please clear up.
Sadly, some days you may need to which is why we have made the Chateau the ideal location to 'work from home' - or tell your boss you are anyway! The house has numerous quiet spots to do this. We also recently installed Starlink for possibly the best wifi range in town.
If you need any more information or just want to chat about the house, we are more than happy to help.
