Chateau de la Guerinchie was built in the early 17th Century for the esteemed Comtes de Tessyiere military family. Designed to be the archetypal manor house, the family helped design and create their perfect Maison. It stayed within the family for over 300 years before changing hands just twice to date and is currently owned by a British family with two young children.
In order to keep the Chateau’s charm, renovations have carefully taken place, ensuring none of the original mouldings or features have been lost. Now fully restored and renovated to a high standard, each room has a unique style, furnished with beautiful wallpaper, fabrics and pictures, as well as carefully selected French and British antiques.
Sleeping up to fourteen (with the potential for four more in the Grange) there is no shortage of things to do within the Chateau’s walls. Walking around the 11 acres of woodland, say hello to the frogs in the lake and the cows next door, before having a game of ping pong in the orchard and finishing with a nice dip in the large pool. The rare rainy day can be taken care of with board games, cinema sized TV, slate based pool table, chess and various games.
The amazing town of Thiviers, with great food and wine is all within walking distance.
Recently purchased by new owners, this house has been beautifully renovated by its two previous owners and constantly being updated now to provide the perfect holiday. Bought with entertaining a large group of friends or families in mind, the sleeping arrangements are ideal. Rooms are all large and ensuite, the top floor housing a children's room and whilst at heart, a well loved, family home, with carefully chosen beautiful furniture - we also want you to enjoy it as your Chateau for your stay (the house is left in this manner for you - all our personal items are cleared well away for the season).
Last but not least, the Chateau is setup to enjoy the amazing food and wines of region. We have recently renovated the main kitchen, with a beautiful Lacanche oven. Outside we now have 2 huge firepit barbecues (firewood from our forest provided!), as well as an outdoor kitchen set up under a beautiful pergola in the orchard. We have a fantastic cook who can come round when booked in advance as well as a group that does winetasting. In Thiviers we have one of the region's best butchers as well as being the home of foie gras. Lastly as part of our own visits, we have put together a fantastic list of lovely restaurants that we are more than happy to share with you.
The current owners fell in love with the Chateau at first sight with its warm, open feeling that flows through the house and we hope you will love our little slice of paradise as much as we do.
The Chateau is a 10mins walk to Thiviers, around 2.5 hours to the city of Bordeaux by car, 55 minutes to Limoges, 30 minutes to Périgueux and an hour to Bergerac. Bergerac, Limoges and Bordeaux all have airports.
Thiviers train station has links to trains to all major towns and even Paris.
On site we have a swimming pool with sun loungers and towels provided.
There is a slate-based pool table, ping pong table, BBQ, full kitchen with LaCanche oven, games room, 90inch TV, high-speed internet, large woodland area for walks and bike rides and indoor and outdoor dining options.
The house has a total of eight bedrooms with the top floor housing one children's bedroom (all on-suite). The Grange will be opened Winter 2024, providing an extra two ensuite bedrooms, with their own kitchen and sitting room (please contact us if you are interested as The Grange is not fully up and running just yet).
Did you know that our local area is known as the 'Foie Gras' region? For foodies, there are many foie gras farms to visit locally, you can read more about that in our blog. Kids will love the local donkey farms or outward bounds courses and for the skateboarders or cyclists, there are lots of local play areas.
The surrounding area has some amazing restaurants. Feel free to ask as always happy to help out with recommendations.
You will never find yourself short of food as the town boasts five major supermarkets and a superb butcher. Need a pharmacy? We have two, we also have three hairdressers, three bakeries, two car garages and several bars.
Thiviers might be small but its Saturday market sure is mighty- people come from miles around to buy our local, fresh produce so if you are going, better get there early.
